Dear Readers,just a remark for who is reading and commenting this blog: Please, try to keep in mind that the word "Americans" does not indicate the people living in USA.
America is a continent going from Alaska to Chile and consisting of 35 different and independent countries (although someone in north America does not agree with that).
Therefore, in this blog American can be anyone living in this continent and it does not matter whether he comes from Chile, Venezuela or USA.
You might point me out that there is not any other denomination for people living in USA. Well, this is not our problem. They can invent a name to indicate themselves, and if they do not want, we can ask some citizen of south America to help them!
Furthermore, the use of the word American for people living only in the USA is offensive towards the different nations in central and south America that suffered the USA colonization and domination between the twenties and the end of the last century (see the last two sections of the 2nd part of: Open Veins of Latin America, E. Galeano).
I hope that every one agrees with that!

gracias por el comentario, yo que soy chileno y muchos otros habitantes de este continente, agradecemos cuando señalas la diferencia entre quienes vivimos en América y quienes viven en un lugar particular de este: USA.
Adicionalmente puedo indicar que en Facebook existe un grupo de discusión, muy activo, llamado "America is a continent, not a single country." y otro: "America is NOT a Country". Luego de mirar ahí un rato eventualmente alguien dice algo así como: bueno, estos tipos no tienen un nombre de país, ¿de qué otra forma podrían llamarse a si mismos...?
Afortunadamente en español el gentilicio para nuestros vecinos del norte es claro: estadounidense, y si alguien quiere otras sugerencias también puede ver el grupo: NOT "American" BUT "UNITEDSTATIAN" !
¡Ah! un alcance, al parecer dentro del pensamiento estadounidense se supone que América serían dos continentes (norte y sudamérica), entonces cuando quieren nombrar al continente dicen "americas" sí, así, con S al final. Esto, como diría un estadounidense, es bullshit.

personas la palabra "America" en lugar de USA, si dandome cuenta del error que estuve comitiendo, alguien me paro'...y con calma me explico' que no habia que utilizar mas esa palabra con ellos...
Ya que no soy tonto...entendi' la reaccion...y desde este momento...nunca mas utilize la palabra America para entender a los Estados Unidos...

Mira, lo que yo creo es que lo EEUU quieren llamarse America, porque creen que el Sur America come el
centro apartenecen a ellos todavia...esta es la verdad!!

I agree with the Antonio argomentation. It would be interesting also discuss about the intrusions of USA government into the south America countries in the '70s and '80s. I would reccomend "The Carla's song".

:-) Like andres said, in spanish the word is estadounidense, that I think translated into english would be "United Statesian"

US people sounds better but you can not say ; "I'm US people" or I'm US...as you would say "I'm French".
We must invent a new word.

It is even more confusing that it was essential to specify that at first it was "of America".
The term US alone, which seems to apear on the scene, opens greater perpectives.
